Biography

Glenn H. Smith, 93 of Nevada died on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17 at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada with Pastor Tom Lee officiating. Burial, with full military rites, will be held in the Clarinda Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
Glenn was born on September 7, 1918 to William H. and Ruth (Humphrey) Smith. He served with the 90th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army and earned the Silver Star. On March 21, 1942, Glenn married Edna I. Thompson in Maryville, MO. He was employed with O.K. Tire Shop, now known as Big 8 Tyre Center in Nevada. Glenn was a member of the William F. Ball American Legion Post #48, V.F.W. Nevada Post #2209, and also was an avid member of the Democratic Party. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and loved spending time with his great grandchildren.
Glenn is survived by a son, Garey (Carole) Smith of Maxwell; 3 grandchildren Todd Smith, Eric Smith, and Candace Ashman; 5 great-grandchildren.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edna on March 18, 2004, a brother Kenneth Smith, and a sister Ilene.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16 with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. again at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
A memorial fund has been established.
